i. Apex Statistical body and custodian of all the provincial statistics.

ii. To act as a Statistical arm of Provincial Government between Line Departments, and District Govt.

iii. To collect and analyze data generated by the line departments and present on desired format according to the needs of decision makers.

iv. To Coordinate with FBS on statistical issues.

v. To act as a representative of the Province in all statistical Panels of  the Federation of Pakistan.

vi.Respond to new Statistical thematic areas like Regional Accounts,Poverty & Income Distribution, MICS, MDGs, Share of NWFP in PSDP.

vii. Resource Distribution Criteria etc. To devise a statistical base for future planning in various sectors.

viii. Conduct census, surveys etc for collection of Primary data.
