Registration of Trade Unions Section
The International Labour Organization
(ILO) conventions ratified by the Government of Pakistan
confer the rights of freedom of association on the
employers and workers. The workers and employers form
and register their associations and trade unions in
accordance with the law.
Registration of trade unions is regulated
under the Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002. For
this purpose we have Registrars of Trade Unions for
the following areas;
Director Labour for N-W.F.P.
Assistant Director Labour (Registration)
at Peshawar for Districts of Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera,
Peshawar, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat,
DI Khan & Tank.
Deputy Director Labour, Haripur for
Districts of Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan
& Batagram.
Deputy Director Labour, Swat for District
of Swat, Buner, Shangla, Malakand, Dir Lower, Dir
Upper & Chitral.
Their main duties are registration of
trade unions of workers and associations of employers,
verification and recognition of trade unions' and
associations' executives/office bearers and holding
of referendums between the contesting trade unions
for determination of Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA)
Unions for different industrial and commercial establishments
in accordance with the law.
