The Cell is responsible for the Implementation
of International system of weights & Measures
through the enforcement of NWFP standared Weights
& Measures Act, 1876. The cell is headed by Deputy
Controller Weights &Measures (BPS-18) and assisted
by one Assistant Controller Weights & Measures
(BPS-17) and seven Inspectors Weights & Measures
(BPS-16) posted through out the province. These officer
are technically qualified trained in their field.
Inspectors Weights & Measures make
regular checking of the petrol pumps to ensure correct
supply of petroleum products. They verify and stamp
all useable scales and weights before they are sold
in the markets. This is done in order to ensure that
only those weighing and measuring instruments are
used in the market, which give correct weights and
measures.
Inspectors Weights & Measures also
collect reasonably good amount of government revenue
on account of verification fee and license fee at
prescribed rates due under the Act. In case of violation
made by the dealers and shopkeepers punitive action
is taken by way of prosecutions by the inspecting
officers.
