Under the Workmen's Compensation Act,
1923, industrial workers are entitled to compensation
for injuries or death arising out of and during the
course of employment. Such compensation is recoverable
by the Workmen's Compensation Commissioner who is
a statutory authority under the Act. Compensation
is paid to the injured workers and to the legal heirs
of the deceased worker in death case of workers through
the Workmen's Compensation Commissioner. Similarly,
the service dues of the employees, who die while in
service, are payable to the dependants of the deceased
workers under the law through Commissioner Workmen's
Compensation as a statutory payment officer for the
amount deposited by the employers amongst the legal
dependants. The Commissioner Workmen's Compensation
is also empowered to act as a Judge for the adjudication
of such compensation cases where the employers refuse
to make payment.
The Commissioner Workmen's Compensation
is also notified as Authority under the Payment of
Wages Act, 1936 for the adjudication of grievances
on account of non-payment of wages, legal dues during
service and the cost of living allowances or dearness
allowances announced by the Government from time to
time.
