The administrative setup for Fisheries Management in the area now comprising North West Frontier Province was Stared for the first time in 1958, under the control of Director Fisheries, West Pakistan Lahore (Ministry of Agriculture) and continued as such till June 1970.

After the dismemberment of one unit in 1970 the administrative setup was made a Wing of NWFP Forest Department till June 1987.

On 01-07-1987, the Fisheries Wing was declared as an Attached Department under the administrative control of Secretary Forestry Fisheries and Wildlife Department.

At present the Director Fisheries is overall in charge of the Department ion the Provincial level. The Director Fisheries is assisted by $ Deputy Directors Fisheries and 21 Assistant Director Fisheries/District Officered Fisheries in province. This officer is supervising and coordinating the deve3lpmentalt as well as conservational activities in their respective Districts/Hatcheries.
