• To conserve and improve the existing forests, shrub-lands and watersheds and maintaining a productive and healthy environment;
• To increase the productivity of the forests, shrub- and range-lands to enhance revenue for the State and private owners and concessionists, and to increase the supply of wood and fodder;
• To encourage public and private investment in forestry with the view of expanding forest resource base and generating employment;
• To conserve wildlife and bio-diversity and to provide natural recreation; and
• To improve the legal frame-work for promoting forestry in the province
