To have exclusive
jurisdiction in respect of registration of private
Universities, Degree and Professional Colleges and
in respect of matters relating to disputes arising
between the Government/Public Sector Universities
and registered institutions.

To Streamline Supervise
and regulate the functioning of the Private Educational
Institutions in NWFP.

Higher Education
Regulatory Authority registers those freshly established
institutions who apply for registration. The certificate
of Registration is issued only after the institution
fulfills the academic, administrative and other
institutional requirements prescribed by the Authority.
The institutions so registered can then apply for
affiliation to a University in whose jurisdiction
they are functioning.

Under the ensuing
law, it is mandatory and obligatory for all institutions
imparting Higher Education in the private sector
to get registration with the Authority prior to
affiliation with public university in the jurisdiction
of which these institutions/ colleges are situated.
Institution affiliated to various universities in
Public Sector prior to promulgation of the Ordinance
is also required to get registered with Higher Education
Regulatory Authority (HERA).

To take action on
the guidelines issued from time to time by the Higher
Education Commission and the Government.

To perform such other
functions as specified in the Ordinance.
