Science & Technology and Information Technology Department established on 2nd October, 2002 is responsible for the promotion of Science and Technology & Information Technology. The mandate of Department is to generate / promote facility and regulate e-government activities in all the Government Departments of the Province. Furthermore it is also responsible for implementing the National Policy on Science and Technology which requires it to organize all sort of scientific and technological promotions and development activities in the province. The Department carries its main concept with the idea to:

• Improve the research activities in Institutions.
• Utilize Information Technology for public benefit.
• Introduce Information Technology in Educational Institutions.
• Advise Government Departments on IT use.
• Scrutinize and monitor IT projects.
• Guide the province in the modern era of Information Technology.

The Department consists of a Secretariat headed by a Secretary, and two Directorates; the Information Technology Directorate and the Science and Technology Directorate.
