The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Education, Sardar Hussain Babak has
said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are bearing the brunt of militancy
because of its nearness to border. His government was going all out to ensure
access to education by all and sundry. His government’s commitment to
streamlining all educational institutions will never weaken.
He was
being briefed by a group of DFID team at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad
this morning. DFID is providing 203.5 million pounds to support educational
sector program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sardar
Babak enumerated a number of steps; his government had taken to re-inforce the
system of education in the province. Decision making process has been carried
out, strict financial discipline maintained and budgetary allocation has been
raised for quality education in the province, he added. He hoped that 203.5
million pound will further improve the educational health of the province. He
said the international community should forget that the province was hit hard
by militancy, the entire education infrastructure dismentaled and what to talk
of losses of lives, physical and psychological terms as these cannot be
counted and measured. We are going with a focus approach to bring out the
people and students from the traumatic condition and was the direct result of
militancy, he argued.
Referring
to the education sector, he added his government was working on a plan to make
a true education environment, all decisions are merit based, all hurdles are
removed and thus leave behind a strong educational legacy for building up of an
educational society.
He
said all resources are being used efficiently and judiciously. The policy is on
right track and the selection process is on merit for better result, he added.
His government has worked out a plan for education governance and management
and the task is being accomplished. Efforts were taken for the welfare of
teachers and community role has been enhanced and hopefully greater role of
teacher, parents and teaching care of allied reasons, the drop out problem
could be properly addressed to, he added.
Enumerating the welfare steps of his government, he said that since the people
and students are in “comma” because of militancy in the province, his
government introduced a number of steps to motivate kids to educational institutions.
We will make the students an asset for secure future of the country. Through
education and enhanced awareness, we are close to our targets and our education
policy is fast becoming a success story.
