The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to celebrate
|Independence Day on 14th August 2012 with national zeal and fervour. A circular
issued here by the Administration Department says that an Independence Day Week
would be celebrated from 8th to 14th August. During this week, seminars,
meetings, conferences, lectures, debates, speech contests at different academic
levels, inter-provincial exchange visits of students, exhibition of
books/articles, quiz competitions, Qirat, Naatkhwani, stage dramas and
mushairas in national as well as local languages would be arranged. The scarlet
thread of this program will be spread of a message of hope projection of a
prosperous Pakistan and strong condemnation of extremism. It will promote, the
much needed, the ever lasting message of the Quaid-i-Azam “faith, unity and
discipline” in the nation.
The circular further tells that there will be firing of 21 gun salute in
the provincial capital at dawn on the Independence Day, while with the dramatic
pause at 08:58 AM with sounding of sirens to herald the flag hoisting at 09:00
AM. All moving traffic (road, rail and sea) will stop for one minute. National
Flag will be hoisted on principal public/private buildings and major parks at
09:00 AM on 14th August. The flag hoisting ceremony will be held at Malik Sadd
Shaheed Ground, Police Line, Peshawar by the Chief Minister in the morning and
flag hoisting ceremonies at the District Headquarters will be held by the DCO
followed by playing of the national anthem. While there would be public holiday
throughout the province.
