Iftikhar Hussain has appealed all the political parties to participate in the
Energy Conference to be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 3.00 PM in the
Chief Minister House Peshawar for devising a strategy to overcome the power
crises, as after 18th constitutional amendment, the provinces had been
empowered to start its own projects in the energy and power sector. He added
that it was not an issue of a particular party or person but rather a national
issue, therefore, each and every one should play its role in this respect.
He made this appeal while attending a presentation on cheapest power
generation from different sources, given by the Canadian based Pakistani
Scientist and President OEI, Calgary Canada Dr. Wasim Paracha at Peshawar. The
presentation was also attended by the ANP Provincial President Senator Afrasiab
Khattak, Higher Education Minister Qazi Muhammad Asad and ANP Provincial
General Secretary Arbab Tahir Khan.
Dr. Wasim Paracha on this occasion told that Allah Almighty has
bestowed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with abundant natural resources like oil, gas,
running water, air and coal and great mountainous tales. If these resources
were properly utilized, thousands of Mega Watts (MW) cheapest power could be
generated in shortest time, he added. He further told, only from flaring
gas of Nashpa (District Karak) Gas field, 200 MW electricity could
be generated within 6 months at a cost of Rs.500 Million. Similarly more than
one thousand MW electricity could be produced from the
flaring gas of all the gas fields of Kohat Division, he furthered.
Mr. Paracha further told, even from the running water in canals and
rivers, air, sun heat and solid wastes, cheapest electricity could be generated
adding that no project would take more than 6 months time. He informed that his
organization had already worked in energy and power sectors and produced electricity
from different sources i.e. running water in canals and rivers, air, sun
heat and solid wastes in USA, Canada Libya Yemen, Tanzania, South America and
Mozambique.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Iftikhar maintained that the present government
was serious in eradication of the prevailing power crises and wants to start
such projects in the energy and power sectors that could be cost effective and
completed in the shortest possible time. He added that the government, with
active participation of all the political parties, was devising a short, medium
and long term strategy to overcome the power crises. He said, for the purpose,
a full-fledged energy and power department has been created which has already
started its working.
The Minister while appreciating the
services and expertise of Dr. Wasim Paracha, said that we were proud of him and
would definitely get full benefit of his expertise. “We are lucky enough to
have a person like Dr. Wasim Paracha, who voluntarily offered his services for
this land”, he concluded
